Experienced Young British Gamekeeper Seeking Opportunity in the USA
Hi, I’m Charlie, I’m 20 years old and from Liverpool, England.
I am looking to take the next step in my career and move to the United States to gain experience within the American hunting, shooting and game-management industry.
I have been heavily involved in driven game shooting and gamekeeping for most of my life. My experience in the UK includes working with driven pheasants, French partridge, English partridge and mallard.
My day-to-day experience includes feeding around release pens, looking after game and cover crops, and working my two Cocker Spaniels to dog pheasants back towards pens and cover. I also have experience helping run shoot days, dealing with clients and their guests, and directing beaters and picking-up teams.
Alongside gamekeeping, I have experience with vermin control, including traps and snares, and we make extensive use of Larsen traps in the UK. I have experience controlling foxes and have also gained experience deer stalking alongside our deer manager. I also enjoy shooting sub-12 ft/lb PCP air rifles.
I currently hold a Section 2 shotgun certificate and am awaiting my firearms certificate so that I can obtain rifles.
I understand that hunting and game management in America is very different from the traditional British driven-shooting. That is one of the things that appeals to me. I am keen to learn how things are done in the United States and develop experience across upland bird hunting, waterfowl, deer, predator control and general wildlife and estate management.
I am not looking simply for a short holiday or a few weeks of hunting. My intention is to make a genuine move to the United States and build a long-term career within the industry. I am hardworking, willing to start at the bottom, and very keen to learn from experienced people.
I also have two working Cocker Spaniels who are an important part of my life and my work. If I make the move to America, they will be coming with me, so suitable accommodation that allows me to keep my dogs would be an important consideration.
I appreciate that taking a job in America would be a very big move for me, and I would therefore ideally be looking for a position that could offer accommodation or on-site housing, particularly while I establish myself in the country.
For me, this isn’t simply a job. Gamekeeping, shooting, working dogs and being outdoors is a lifestyle that I genuinely live for.
I am willing to travel, work hard and learn. I am looking for an opportunity to prove myself and become a valuable member of a team.
