The Need for Political Engagement to Protect the Gamebird Industry
Politics … Is there a more emotionally charged word in today's United States? We can't get away from it. Our politics is increasingly polarizing, with friends and family members often at odds over who and what they back. It’s enough to make anyone shudder at the mention of the word.
And yet politics, or more accurately engagement in politics, is absolutely essential to protecting the gamebird industry. NAGA's own Executive Director, Rob Sexton, will present "Why Hunting Preserves Must Be Politically Engaged" on Tuesday, July 22, on the second day of the 4th Annual Hunting Club Conference. Sexton has more than 30 years of political experience, designing and managing nationwide legislative campaigns and statewide ballot issues.
“Politics really boils down into a game of who shows up,” he explained. “Those who find engaging with politicians to be undesirable are often the ones who realize decisions have been made that affect their businesses without their knowledge. Hunting preserves can’t afford to have their heads in the sand on this because they are uniquely suited to make a difference.”
The NAGA Hunting Club Conference covers every aspect of the hunting preserve business, from marketing and profitability to bird care and cover crops, alternative money streams, disease control and management, and yes, even politics.
“We’re at a time when our elected leaders often leave out the gamebird industry when we’re not in the room when things happen,” explained NAGA President Mike Martz. “That’s why we take time to make sure we’re all properly equipped to speak with one unified voice across the country to protect our way of life.”
