San Antonio Is Worth an Extended Stay!

Stay a Little Longer! Explore San Antonio After the NAGA Convention. Our hotel block has been extended through Feb. 6, giving you more time to explore the Alamo City....

The 2027 NAGA Convention runs Feb. 1-3 at the Plaza San Antonio Hotel & Spa, but why head home as soon as the convention wraps up? With so much to see and do in San Antonio, this is one trip worth extending!

Good news! Our convention hotel block has been extended through Feb. 6, giving attendees the opportunity to stay a few extra days and explore the Alamo City.

Located in the heart of downtown, the Plaza San Antonio Hotel & Spa puts you within walking distance of many of the city's most popular attractions. And for those flying into San Antonio International Airport, there's no need to rent a car. Most destinations are a short walk or Uber ride away.

If you're considering extending your stay, here are my top five recommendations for making the most of your time in San Antonio.

1. The Alamo

No trip to San Antonio would be complete without visiting the Alamo. Located just a half-mile walk from the hotel, this historic site played a pivotal role in Texas' fight for independence. The grounds extend well beyond the iconic Alamo church, and I highly recommend taking a guided tour. It's an inspiring and educational experience that's well worth the time. Tour tickets and reservations can be purchased online.

2. San Antonio River Walk

Whether you're looking for shopping, drinks, lunch or a delicious dinner, the famous San Antonio River Walk is a must-see. Just a six-minute walk from the hotel, this popular attraction offers a scenic 1.5-mile loop and river cruises throughout the day and evening. The beautifully lit cruises after dark are especially memorable. Tickets can be purchased online.

3. Historic Market Square

Texas may have won its independence in 1836, but its rich Mexican heritage remains an important part of San Antonio's culture. A 20-minute walk northwest of the hotel brings you to Historic Market Square, where you'll find shopping, street performers and authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex food. The current market location dates to 1890, while the original market began in 1730.

4. Buckhorn Saloon and Museums

Just a half-mile from the hotel, the Buckhorn Saloon and Museums offers one of San Antonio's more unique attractions. In addition to saloon fare, visitors can explore the Buckhorn Museum, home to an extensive collection of wildlife taxidermy from around the world, and the Texas Ranger Museum, which celebrates the history of the Lone Star State's renowned law enforcement agency.

Bonus stop: If you've got a sweet tooth, Voodoo Doughnut is located right across the street!

5. Japanese Tea Garden

My final recommendation requires a short, 15-minute drive north of downtown. Located next to the San Antonio Zoo, the Japanese Tea Garden offers a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle. This historic garden features beautiful landscaping and tranquil surroundings, making it an ideal spot to unwind.

San Antonio has plenty more to offer, but these five attractions have earned my personal endorsement. If there was ever a city worth spending a few extra days exploring, San Antonio is it!
