Hunting Club Conference Feature: Hunting Preserve 101

Jacob Staples, Mississippi Upland...

In the five-year history of the NAGA Hunting Club Conference, the organization has worked to provide a blend of agenda topics that meet the needs of both high-end destination hunting lodges and smaller day-trip hunting clubs that together represent the variety of hunting preserves across the country. One topic not yet addressed, however, is the challenges facing those looking to start a new hunting operation.

Jacob Staples knows that topic well. A businessman and owner of a new hunting preserve, Mississippi Upland, Staples brings firsthand experience. The Laurel, Mississippi-based operation describes itself as “an upland hunting preserve and breeder of German shorthaired pointers. We are your hometown source for anything upland. We offer a wide range of hunting packages to meet anyone’s needs and budget.”

Recommended by newly elected NAGA board member John Tuck, Staples said he learned a great deal about launching a hunting preserve in today’s business and digital environment and looks forward to sharing the process behind building his operation from the ground up.

“I think it can be hard for people in this business to admit they need a topic that really begins at the basics,” said Dan Barngrover, chairman of the Hunting Club Conference. “While we all benefit from hearing from third-party experts, we also gain a lot when we share our own stories about how we started and operate our businesses. We’re grateful Jacob is willing to share.”

Staples is one of 17 presenters anchoring the fifth edition of the only conference created exclusively by hunting preserves, for hunting preserves. The NAGA Hunting Club Conference is scheduled for July 20-22 at the Embassy Suites Old Market in Omaha, Nebraska.
