Hunting Club Conference Feature: Ensuring a Successful Family Succession Plan

Secure your legacy today while setting the next generation up for success....

Positive attendee feedback on the agenda for the 2026 NAGA Convention in Charleston was the highest in modern history based on the post event evaluation. Among those presentations that scored the highest was a personal story of how one family business implemented a family succession plan that ensures the financial security of the family members stepping aside, while setting the next generation up for success.

The presentation was so highly rated that the Hunting Club Conference Committee decided to bring it to the 5th Annual Hunting Club Conference in Omaha, Nebraska for an encore presentation. Former NAGA President Peg Ballou told the story of how she and former NAGA President Sam Ballou implemented the plan and took steps throughout the lives of their children to give the plan a great chance to succeed. The Ballou family owns Elkhorn Lake Hunt Club in Bucyrus, Ohio along with Elkhorn Farms & Hatchery. The businesses are currently being transitioned to son Samuel (Sam) Ballou and daughter Ruth Malpas.

“Both Convention and Hunting Club Conference attendees have long wanted a high quality and practical presentation on successful succession planning,” explained Hunting Club Conference Chairman Dan Barngrover. “Peg delivered both so well in Charleston that we knew hunting preserves would greatly benefit from hearing it as well.”

The Succession Planning presentation is just one of the incredibly useful and immediately practical aspects of the 5th Annual Hunting Club Conference, which takes place July 20-22, 2026, at the Embassy Suites Old Market in Omaha, Nebraska.
