How the Animal Rights Lobby Snuck a Hunting Ban into the Farm Bill...
On March 3, animal rights groups inserted an amendment into the Farm Bill that would ban training and field trialing using live animals such as pheasants, quail, partridges, ducks, pigeons, rabbits, hares, foxes and coyotes. The amendment, portrayed as only banning greyhound racing, goes much farther and also bans hunting with sighthounds and likely even bird hunting on game preserves.
The effort was uncovered by NAGA’s longtime partner, the Sportsmen’s Alliance, which has coordinated the hunting community’s plan to remove the language from the Farm Bill.
Although the battle is ongoing, attendees at the 5th Annual NAGA Hunting Club Conference will receive the latest information on the proposal and the effort to defeat it. The Sportsmen’s Alliance, which has assembled a coalition of bird dog and retriever groups, houndsmen and other hunting organizations, will provide an update and explain how the gamebird industry can better prepare as the fight continues.
“It’s absolutely insane that a total ban on hunting and training with gamebirds made it into the Farm Bill,” said Hunting Club Conference Chairman Dan Barngrover. “We need to keep the gamebird industry engaged to defend our businesses.”
Attendees will receive a full briefing, learn what actions are needed and be able to ask questions about the ongoing effort to defeat the amendment.
