An enormous amount of time and ink has been used to help gamebird businesses prevent, prepare and persevere through avian influenza. Unfortunately, HPAI isn’t the only calamity that can strike NAGA members.
In the aftermath of an EF2 tornado that destroyed several of the barns causing substantial property damage and bird loss at Wisconsin’s MacFarlane Pheasants, the NAGA Convention Committee began discussing how disasters have impacted other farms and hunting businesses over the years. More than a few have survived terrible events and have learned many lessons.
The NAGA Annual Convention in Laughlin, Nevada, February 3-5, 2025, will feature a panel of gamebird businesses who have endured tornados, fires, flooding and catastrophic blizzards. The panel members will share experiences, how they planned ahead and what they learned in the aftermath. The panel will include MacFarlane’s Chris Theisen and Beaver’s Game Farm’s Brian Beavers among other examples of disasters that will be highlighted.
“If there’s any silver lining to experiencing these types of calamities,” said MacFarlane Pheasant’s Sarah Pope, who is NAGA’s 1st Vice President, “it’s that we can help others prevent or greatly reduce the long-term damage and harm they experience in the event of a disaster.”
