There is a battle raging across the country that most never give a single thought....
Recent national meetings of the gamebird industry have addressed many topics over the years from bird health to field cover and beyond. Since 2015, the North American Gamebird Association has produced a regular supply of ongoing education on the subject of avian influenza, including how to prevent it, deal with its impact and reemerge after an outbreak.
While all these battles are important, another battle takes place every day on a much larger battlefield, one that most are not familiar with: data breaches. There is a group of people across the globe who spend their waking hours conceiving methods to invade the private data domain of law-abiding people for nefarious purposes.
Victims of data breaches have been blackmailed over private information in their files or outright extorted to pay a ransom to regain access to the data they once took for granted. Whether you keep your documents on a backed-up PC or in the cloud, this is a vulnerability that must be taken seriously.
On the second day at 9 a.m. of the 2026 NAGA Convention, Javier Young from CLA will present Cyber Wars: Protecting Your Data and Computer Systems to attendees.
“I think most of us never give a second thought to what would happen if we suddenly lost access to our files and data,” said NAGA President Mike Martz. “And if we do, we tend to worry about our bank accounts being hacked and not the actual business records and data we take for granted.”
However, large corporations, small businesses and even local governments have all found themselves victims in an area in which most people have no real expertise. Many have been forced to pay ransoms to regain access to their files while others have opted to manually restore their lost data.
Either option represents tremendous stress and hardship for any business. Imagine not being able to access customer records during critical gamebird sales months or being unable to process a financial transaction or losing accounting and tax records. Javier will discuss these concerns and, more importantly, the steps that can be taken to avoid being a victim.
“The 2026 NAGA Convention includes many expected topics dealing with gamebird issues,” Martz explained. “But this year’s program also includes vital general business education like the Cyber Wars presentation. It is a must attend event.”
