Due to the Virulent Newcastle Disease Regional Quarantine in the state of California, the United States Postal Service will no longer allow shipments of poultry into or out of zip codes 90000-93599.
Virulent Newcastle disease (VND), formerly known as Exotic Newcastle Disease, is a serious, highly contagious viral disease that can affect poultry and other birds. It is important that all commercial and non-commercial poultry owners maintain effective barriers to mitigate the risk of VND. VND is a nearly-always fatal respiratory infection in poultry for which there is no cure.
The Postal Service ban includes the quarantine area and other Postal areas that could potentially transport poultry.
This quarantine is effective immediately across the following affected Districts.
· San Diego
· Los Angeles
· Santa Ana
· Sierra Coastal
